Welcome to our ongoing celebration of the Library of Congress National Book Festival. Each weekday, we will feature a video presentation from among the thousands of authors who have appeared at the National Book Festival and as part of our new year-long series, National Book Festival Presents. Mondays will feature topical nonfiction; Tuesday: poetry or literary fiction; Wednesday: history, biography, memoir; Thursday: popular fiction; and Friday: authors who write for children and teens. Please enjoy, and make sure to explore our full National Book Festival video collection!

Jo Ann Jenkins is the chief executive officer of AARP, a nonprofit and nonpartisan membership organization dedicated to social change and helping people 50 and over to improve the quality of their lives. Previously, she served as the chief operating officer of the Library of Congress. She has received the Women in Technology Leadership Award, the Library of Congress Distinguished Service Award, a Malcolm Baldrige fellowship and the Black Women’s Agenda Economic Development Award.

Jenkins came to the Contemporary Life stage of the 2016 Library of Congress National Book Festival to discuss her book, “Disrupt Aging: A Bold New Path to Living Your Best Life at Any Age,” which focuses on three core areas—health, wealth and self—to show how to embrace opportunities and change the way we look at getting older. Wendy Rieger, an anchor for NBC4 in Washington, introduces Jenkins. The author begins her presentation at 4:25, and the Q&A begins at 32:30.
