Photo Blog #19: Potpourri

Share this post:

Hello and thanks for checking out our latest mystery photo blog.  We’ve got some odd ones for you this time.  Please see below.  As always, “clicking” on any of the photos will enlarge them.  As they are solved, we will update this post accordingly.  Many thanks!

1.  Surely someone has seen this film.  It seems never noir.  Who are the actors and can anyone tell us the title?

SOLVED:  “Deadline at Dawn” with Constance Worth from 1946.–Thanks, Camille!

2.  Might this be an actor or a vaudeville star?  If you know his name, please clue us in.

SOLVED!:  This is silent film director Charles Brabin.

3.  Anyone know this songstress?

UPDATE:  Carmen McRae?

4.  These two ice skates are, so far, unknown to us.  And, yes, she does seem to be dressed like a car.

SOLVED!:  An “Ice Capades” show, c. 1955, possibly titled “Motorama.”

5.  That’s Karyn Parsons on the far left, Terrence Trent D’Arby next to her and Lori Petty next to him.  But who is the woman on the end?

SOLVED:  The lady on the end is fashion designer Pamela Barish.

6.  Anyone recognize anyone from this group?

UPDATE:  The man in the middle is Dr. Martin H. Prince; the others are still unknown.

7.  This man seems to be a radio fan.  But what is his name?

8.  This man seems to be a Mary Martin fan, but what is his name?

9.  Can anyone identify these musicians?  (A code in the lower corner reads:  “SS-KOD.”)

SOLVED!:  “The Magic Garden of Stanley Sweetheart” (1970)

10.  This shot might be something more for tourism or maybe it’s from a film.  We are open to suggestions.

SOLVED:  “Star of India” (1954)!

THANKS!

Comments (16)

  1. The drummer in #9 looks like Mick Fleetwood

  2. I’m 100% sure about three of the four people in picture number 4. In order from left to right they are:

Karyn Parsons from the television show “Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” singer Terence Trent D’Arby, and actress Lori Petty.

The fourth person looks familiar, but I can’t figure out who it is.

  3. #1 is Constance Worth in RKO’s ‘Deadline at Dawn’ (1946). Without rewatching the film, it’s difficult to figure out who the man with his back to the camera is – probably Jerome Cowan, but possibly Joseph Calleia or Paul Muni.

  4. I’d like to offer something positive. However, Henny and Jim Backus aren’t depicted in photo no. 6 and I’m pretty sure that Carmen McRae isn’t the singer in photo no. 3 (I think this came up before).

  5. #4 skaters could be pics of cast members in a Chevy/General Motors Industrial Musical on ice. The woman’s costume replicates the hood logo and grill work of a circa 1957 Chevy.

#6 I don’t believe it’s Jim and Henny Backus. The man, who is holding a cane, looks very familiar, though.

  6. #5 — is that last one Grace Slick?

  7. Jerome Cowan’s back is to the camera in still #1. Constance Worth’s character has just entered his apartment & says “You might like to know that (Spoiler)’s been killed. I’ve just come from there.”

  8. #7 looks like Edgar Bergen, the ventriloquist of the Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy duo.

  9. Ben,I thought #5 was Grace Slick, too.

  10. Could the man second from left in #6 be Tom Lehrer? I am not sure of the jawline though.

  11. #9 looks like Mick Fleetwood seated at the drum kit

  12. #5 seems like it has something to do with Lush Life, a short lived 90s sitcom. Petty and Parsons starred on it and D’Arby was a guest star on an episode that never aired. Lauren Graham acted on the show and she kind of looks like the person on the right in the photo; could it be her?

  13. #9: Guitarist showing left profile on right side of photo looks faintly like a young Carlos Santana.

  14. #10 is from Star of India from 1954. It was a UK/Italy co-production and these girls were not credited.
The still number at the bottom reads SI-PROD-18. SI are the initials from the title and PROD stands for production photo. 18 is the sequence number.

  15. # 5 looks like Rita Coolidge on the far right

  16. #9 I agree drummer looks like Mick Fleetwood. Guitarist at right looks like Stevie Ray Vaughan.
