Follow Your Passion: Three Leading Nonfiction Writers on the Power of Research

Imagine having the time to explore whatever you want and getting paid for it! Rebecca Lemov’s study of mind control, Mindy Weisberger’s examination of real-life zombification among insects, and Carl Zimmer’s pursuit of the untold story of the air we breathe all came out of their research. Learn more at this panel, moderated by Chief Communications Officer Roswell Encina. Book signing to follow.

Don’t miss the collections display from Manuscript and Science, Business and Technology collections, featuring Library of Congress materials that expand upon the topics of these books.

Find Out How We Preserve Books, Maps and More!

Discover how the Library of Congress uses preservation research and testing to explore and understand our collections. From revealing what authors may have erased and examining the health of our collections, to gathering knowledge about bugs, smells and hidden dimensions: conservationists at the Library of Congress undertake research to understand what materials our collections are made of and how to ensure they survive for many generations to come.  Partake in experiments on topics like:

  • Do you really know paper?
  • Multispectral imaging that reveals obscured content
  • Historic pigments and raw materials
  • What makes that “old book” smell?

…And more.

We’re looking forward to seeing you there! Get your tickets here.
