It’s been eight weeks since we launched our inaugural poetry podcast series, From the Catbird Seat, with U.S. Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith as our first guest. Today, we air the eighth and final episode of the season, which you can listen to on our website or on iTunes.

We decided to end this first season much like we began it—with a celebratory inaugural occasion. Just three Septembers before Tracy K. Smith walked out onto the stage of the Coolidge Auditorium for the first time as Poet Laureate, Charles Wright had opened his laureateship in the same tradition. Last spring, the Poetry and Literature Center staff took a road trip down to Charlottesville to catch up with Charles Wright; after a little prodding, he opened up about his year in the catbird seat, starting with that opening reading in September 2014.

On today’s episode, tune in for part of that conversation with Charles Wright in Charlottesville, and stick around for some highlights from his inaugural reading at the Library of Congress.

That’s all for the first season of From the Catbird Seat! If you’re just tuning in to the podcast, don’t fret: You can still go back and listen to the first seven episodes, and we hope you do.

We’ll be back in the fall with a new podcast series. Stay tuned!
