Are you a teen looking for a unique summer internship opportunity? Do you want to add your voice to the Library of Congress and help shape resources for teens in the future? Do you have a teen in your life who would be interested in interning with the Library of Congress during the summer? The Library of Congress High School Summer Internship is accepting applications until Friday, February 28, 2025 at 11:59 PM EST.

Each summer, the Informal Learning Office of the Library hosts twelve high school students in this internship, which has both a virtual and hybrid opportunity for local students. Many of the internship’s meetings take place online, allowing teens from all over the country to participate. A few local students will be selected as hybrid interns, and they will join the Informal Learning Office on-site four times during the internship. Past interns have participated from Georgia, Ohio, Texas, Utah, California, New Jersey, and New Hampshire, while local students from the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland have also joined as hybrid interns.  Selected teens will meet with Library staff and learn about the collections, exhibitions, and programs hosted by the Library of Congress.

Children and families explore an interactive exhibit, with colorful images on the wall. In the center is an exploding card catalog with replicas of Library items flying out of it.

This year’s internship will focus on providing teen perspectives on The Source: Creative Research Studio for Kids, a new creative research experience for young people opening in about a year. Teens will meet with Library staff and hear about the process of developing a learning center, opening a new public space, and programming experiences for young audiences at the Library. After hearing about these processes, teens will be asked to provide their own feedback and opinions about the Library’s work and what they would be most interested in seeing and experiencing as a teenager visiting the space.
