Washington Herald 4.1.20 1

Transcription: “I hope I’m not too late to play a joke on Uncle Wiggily,” thought the little squirrel boy as he scampered off through the trees on his way home. But, all this while Billie was doing something. Having reached home first Billie thought to himself: “Now I can guess the kind of April Fool trick Johnnie is going to play on Uncle Wiggily, Johnnie will empty the bowl of sugar and put salt in there instead. Then Uncle Wiggily will be fooled at the supper table tonight when he tries to sweeten his carrot tea. “But I’ll play a joke on Johnnie. I’ll empty the salt bag and fill it with sugar, and when Johnnie empties the sugar bowl, and fills that from the bag, he’ll just be putting real sugar in again, and it will be a good joke on Johnnie instead of Uncle Wiggily.”
