In summer 2018, the AFC at the Library of Congress launched a paid internship opportunity as part of a program established through a generous gift from the late AFC staff member Peter Bartis (1949 – 2017). These positions introduced interns to the research collections at the AFC and the Library; helped develop critical skills related to documentation, archival practice, and cultural heritage research and programs; built knowledge about the fields of folklore, ethnomusicology and oral history; and offered mentorship opportunities with senior folklorists and ethnomusicologists.
We have now opened applications for the 2020 Folklife Intern positions! This year, we’ve been able to increase the stipend–raising it from $7000 to $7500–and have on offer four exciting projects that applicants can choose from when submitting their materials (head over to the application site for full info). We’re also here to answer any questions regarding the opportunities. Please help spread the word to those emerging culture workers in your life!
