During this global pandemic, the Library of Congress Veterans History Project (VHP) continues to meet its mission of collecting, preserving and making accessible the wartime remembrances of U.S. military veterans. While we recognize during normal circumstances what we do is incredibly important, currently we have taken steps to modify the way we work because the health and safety of our employees is our top priority. We want to keep our readers informed as things change, so we will update this article with new announcements periodically until the crisis ends. Please check back often. Also while you are home practicing social distancing, we invite you to spend some time visiting our website, www.loc.gov/vets, which includes more than 9,000 hours of audio- and 7,000 hours of video-recorded interviews, as well as hundreds of photographs and pieces of correspondence. Library of Congress buildings remain closed to the public until further notice. As communities across the country roll out different phases of activities, please note that all incoming mail, including commercial delivery packages sent to the Veterans History Project, will continue to be routed through the Library of Congress off-site facility, and will be processed in the order received when on-site accessioning activities are resumed. There is no expedited service, and no special handling offered at this time. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. Out of an abundance of caution due to COVID-19, all Library of Congress buildings and facilities are closed to the public, and Veterans History Project staff are currently teleworking. All incoming packages and mail from both commercial and USPS deliveries, including Veterans History Project donations, will be stored in a secure location until staff return. Acknowledgements of receipt of collections and collection processing will resume when staff are able to return on-site.
