The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress today launches its eighth season of “America Works,” an original podcast series that honors the creativity, resilience and dedication of the 168-million-strong American workforce. The new season features interview excerpts from the Occupational Folklore Project with 8 workers whose jobs involve health and healing – from an emergency room pediatrician to a hospital nutritionist, a large animal veterinarian to an anesthesiologist. The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress today launched its seventh season of “America Works,” an original podcast series that honors the creativity, resilience, and dedication of the 168-million-strong American workforce. The new season focuses on workers whose jobs involve animals – from sustainable farmers to a fishing shop owner to a taxidermist as well as a port sampler who measures fish and a trash hauler who uses draft horses. The eight-episode series, part of the American Folklife Center’s ongoing Occupational Folklife Project, introduces audiences to a wide range of voices from the contemporary American workforce. Each episode, excerpted from a longer full-length oral history interview, runs approximately five minutes. The first episode is available now on Apple Podcasts and at loc.gov/podcasts. The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress is kicking off 2022 with the much-awaited third season of "America Works," a podcast series celebrating the diversity, resilience and creativity of American workers in the face of economic uncertainty. The new season, launched today, features riveting stories from a teacher and workers at a circus, a meat plant, a vineyard, and a now-closed Boeing factory, among others.
