Speaker Biography: Chander Shekhar is senior Persian specialist in the department of Persian at the University of Delhi. He is the author of numerous books and articles on India’s rich Persian language manuscript, lithograph and early imprint tradition.

DESCRIPTION: Several experts participated in an all-day symposium on the legacy of the ancient Persian Sasanian empire (224-651 A.D.). The Sasanians ruled a large empire in Central and Western Asia, stretching from the Oxus River to the Euphrates and from the Hindukush to Eastern Arabia, for over 400 years (224-651 B.C.). Known as Iranshahr (the Domain of Iran), it was a powerful empire that engendered much of what came to be known as the Iranian culture in the medieval and modern periods.

Speaker Biography: Bahiyyih Nakhjavani was born in Iran, raised in Uganda, and educated in the U.K. and the United States. She has taught literature and creative writing in many countries, is the author of non-fiction as well as novels, and has adapted Persian poetry into English during her career as a teacher and a writer.
