Lecture: Spanish Gastronomy and Cultural Innovation

José Berasaluce will discuss the influence of Spanish gastronomy on US culinary practice and culture. Berasaluce is a historian, culinary critic, and manager of Catas con arte, a project by the University of Cadiz (Spain), which provides cultural insight on topics related to philosophy, gastronomy, and viticulture. Event will be in Spanish, but some English translation will be provided. Cosponsored by the Hispanic Division and Hispanic Cultural Society of the Library of Congress. Free tickets available via Eventbrite.

Lecture: A Story in Layers: The Artisan Hands That Make Japanese Woodblock Prints

Clair Cuccio, an independent scholar of East Asian woodblock prints and print culture, will discuss how Japanese woodblock prints are created by means of a network of multiple artists in a process that combines individual expertise and collaborative production. A number of materials drawn from both the Asian Division’s Japanese collection and the Prints & Photographs Division will be displayed. This event is hosted by the Asian Division and Prints & Photographs Division, Library of Congress.  Free and open to the public. Registration via Eventbrite is encouraged but not required.

Hispanic Reading Room Research Orientation

Sign up for our research orientation and learn about the Hispanic Reading Room services and collections. Orientations are offered to the public the second Tuesday of every month from 11:00am-12:00pm. Those attending should obtain a Library of Congress Reader Identification Card prior to the session. For more information about reader’s cards, see here.
Location: Hispanic Reading Room, Thomas Jefferson Building, LJ-240. Attendees should use the First Street Carriage Entrance of the Jefferson Building.

  1. Please consider live streaming LOC programs as webinars and or on demand video and posting video on You Tube so everyone can learn about the topics.

    Many familes, including mine, have deleted all social media accounts. The homeless, people living in poverty and students are unlikely to be able to attend LOC events in person.

    Facebook Live and most social media platforms could supplement but shouldn’t replace webinars, on demand video and You Tube.
