The African and Middle Eastern Division (AMED) Reading Room in LJ 220 will move on Wednesday, April 24th after regular business hours at 5:00 p.m. to the new AMED Reading Room in the Northeast Pavilion (LJ-229) and open to readers on Thursday, April 25th at 8:30 a.m.
In order to reach us, enter the Library through the Carriage Entrance on the Ground Floor and then follow the arrows in the map below once you get past Security and the Visitor’s Desk. Walk through a long, rather winding corridor with yellow walls, and then take the back elevators to the 2nd Floor. On exiting the elevator, turn right and enter through the Rare Book and Special Collections Division offices till you reach our new Reading Room.
The AMED Reading Room’s business hours remain the same: Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Closed on Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays.
Users of the Library’s research facilities are required to have a Reader Identification Card issued by the Library. Click here for instructions of how to obtain a Reader ID.
Click here for information on personal items and security. A cloakroom for researchers is provided on the ground floor of the Jefferson Building in Room LJ G39-G. This cloakroom is open from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursday. Another cloakroom, located near the 1st Street carriage entrance on the ground floor of the Jefferson Building, is open Mondays through Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
