Taru Spiegel currently works in the European Division as a reference specialist for Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Flemish-speaking Belgium, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. She also answers questions requiring some knowledge of other Western European languages such as German, French, and Italian. Spiegel has worked in the Library for many years and has held positions such as special assistant, program officer, and copyright examiner, volunteering for details in the Kluge Center, Law Library and the American Folklife Center. She was born in Vaasa, Finland and has lived in Africa, Asia, and Europe. Her Ph.D. in political science is from the University of Maryland.
