The following is a guest post by Robert Newlen, the Assistant Law Librarian for Collections, Outreach and Services in the Law Library of Congress.
On October 5, 2011, Professor Joseph Raz will deliver the second Kellogg Biennial Lecture on Jurisprudence at the Library of Congress. Professor Raz teaches at Columbia University Law School and is visiting professor at King’s College London, School of Law.
Professor Raz is a prominent legal, moral, and political philosopher and an advocate of legal positivism. His impressive and widely respected oeuvre includes The Authority of Law, The Concept of a Legal System, The Morality of Freedom, and Practical Reason and Norms. In addition to his teaching commitments, Professor Raz is frequently invited to lecture around the globe. I had the good fortune of meeting him recently at his home in London in the charming neighborhood of Marylebone. We had lunch in a wonderful Swedish restaurant near his home. You can read more about Professor Raz’s work at his website.
The Law Library of Congress is looking forward to hosting Professor Raz for this important event in October. Further details will be posted later.
This lecture series is made possible through the generosity of Frederic R. and Molly S. Kellogg. Ronald Dworkin, professor of jurisprudence at University College London and the New York University School of Law, delivered the inaugural lecture in 2009.
