Christine and I received a memo from Pam dated January 10, 1995, on the original THOMAS launch.  It was so fascinating to read that we thought we should share it.  We also found the original press release online.

SUBJECT: Legislative Information on the Internet (“THOMAS”)

Here is a copy of a handout on the new legislative information system the 104th Congress initiated using the Library of Congress.  Because we do not have World Wide Web in the Law Library Reading Room, there is no access in the LLRR.  This information may be given to researchers who want to access the system from their own computers.

Here are two handouts about THOMAS and the World Wide Web that we provided to Law Library patrons in 1995:

Can you imagine a library without access to the World Wide Web or a time without it?

  1. Ah, how times have changed. Glad we no longer have to explain how to access Uniform Resource Locations, or what the WWW is!
