Congress.gov uses responsive design to look great on any device

One of the wonderful features of Congress.gov is its responsive design.  If you are like I was and have no idea what that means check out Mashable’s article, “Why 2013 Is the Year of Responsive Web Design.” (Congress.gov launched back in 2012; we are a little ahead of the curve.)

I’ve mentioned before that:

I also love the responsive web design of the site. It formats across any device I’m using and gives me a quick way to access Congressional information if I’m away from my desk.

So how can you take advantage of the mobile friendly responsive design?  Glad you asked.  The quickest way is to add an icon to your home screen of your favorite phone and tablet.

For an iPhone follow these three simple steps: go to Congress.gov, select the share icon in the bottom center of the screen (conveniently circled in red below), and touch “Add to Home Screen.”

After going to Congress.gov, select the icon with the red circle around it.

Then click the Congress.gov icon that says “Add to Home Screen” under it.

If you have an iPad, the steps are very similar.  After going to Congress.gov, select the share icon, and touch “Add to Home Screen.”

First touch Apple’s share icon, then “Add to Home Screen.”

On an Android device using the Firefox (or Chrome) browser, click on the menu button. On a Samsung Galaxy S2, this is located on the lower left-hand side of the phone. Touch the star icon to add a bookmark, touch the URL field, and touch “Bookmarks.” Finally, touch and hold the Congress.gov bookmark and select “Add to Home Screen.”

On an Android device using the Firefox browser, click on the menu button.

Touch the star icon to add a bookmark.

Touch the URL field and touch “bookmarks.”
Touch and hold the Congress.gov bookmark and select “Add to Home Screen.”

Let me know in the comments below if you have added the Congress.gov icon to your home screen.

  2. I would like to add a page to my website where people could search congress.gov directly from my site. Is this possible?

  3. It appears the “Add to Home Screen” feature is no longer active. I attempted it on multiple browsers on iPhone and found no such icon or text.
