The Library of Congress will host the 16th Annual National Book Festival on Saturday, September 24 at the Washington Convention Center. In addition, to notable author presentations and an array of literacy activities for all ages, Law Library of Congress staff will be available to meet with festival attendees in the Library of Congress Pavilion from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. In Custodia Legis bloggers Jennifer and Jenny will be among the staff available to answer your questions about how the Law Library of Congress can assist you with your legal research needs. We will also provide giveaways including our beloved gavel pencils and bookmarks!
Barbara will give a presentation from 1:40 p.m. to 2:10 p.m. that will review the wealth of legal information available on Law.gov and the Congress.gov legislative information system. In particular, Barbara will teach festival attendees how to find historical legal and legislative documents recently digitized by the Law Library of Congress, information about bills and resolutions introduced in Congress from 1973 to the present, and free U.S. state and foreign legal research materials available online.
In the spirit of the election year, the Law Library will also show a visual presentation entitled “Electoral Memory of the United States,” which highlights political cartoons, campaign posters, and photographs of previous presidential candidates from the Library of Congress collection. The presentation also demonstrates how Congress.gov can be used to research congressional debates and other activities related to the United States elections.
We hope to see you at the National Book Festival in a couple of weeks!
