I’ve lived in Southern California my whole life, but my parents instilled in my three younger brothers and me that travelling to new places often brings knowledge that you cannot learn in school. My family still takes a few trips to various national parks over summers and breaks in the academic year. Growing up, I was encouraged to spend my time reading and being active in sports and academics.
What is your academic/professional history?
I graduated two days before I began this internship with my B.A. in communications with a concentration in public relations from California State University, San Bernardino. I began college as a biology pre-med major, then changed to business administration, and eventually found my niche in public relations. I traveled abroad in Europe last summer and completed a journalism internship in Madrid, Spain which was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
How would you describe your job (or research project) to other people?
In a nutshell, my position is content creation. I write eye-catching and appealing blog and social media posts for the Law Library. As a public servant, I see my position as a researcher that wants to spread the word about events, people, and places the public may not be aware about before viewing my content.
Why did you want to work at the Law Library?
The Law Library stands out to me because its collection is so expansive. Law has interested me since I began college, and working here will help me understand more about domestic and international law. My dream job is to be a city manager or to be in administration for higher education. The Law Library will help me build a unique background in policy which will certainly help me in any career path I choose.
What is the most interesting fact you’ve learned about the Law Library of Congress?
In my opinion, the most interesting fact about the Law Library of Congress is that it runs the top blog, In Custodia Legis, within the Library of Congress as a whole. This fact is motivating for me because I always want to publish the most recent and accurate content. Last year alone, the blog got over half a million views, which is incredible! The public certainly enjoys this blog, and I think it is phenomenal how big the following for it is.
What’s something most of your co-workers do not know about you?
When I am at home in California, I like to make my own salsa and try to perfect it. It’s hard to get the perfect flavor because sometimes the ingredients taste different depending on the seasons.
