Interview with Ashley Granby Wolf, Intern with the Office of External Relations

Describe your background.

I grew up in northeastern Maryland in the suburbs of Baltimore and Wilmington, Delaware.  Currently, I live on Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota where my husband, Bo, is stationed. We have two sons, Noah and Ezra, two dogs, and two guinea pigs, seemingly on our way to a mini-farm!

What is your academic/professional history?

I received my Bachelor’s in psychology at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. For five years, I worked at Geisinger Health Plan in Danville, Pennsylvania in healthcare economics.  In 2015, I went back to graduate school where I received my Masters of Mass Communications and a graduate certificate in Health Journalism.  Before interning at the Law Library of Congress, I worked as a graphic designer and marketing representative at Ellsworth Air Force Base. I am also an author for an online mental health publication, Mindcology.

How would you describe your job (or research project) to other people?

As a Law Library External Relations Intern, I have been tasked with multiple strategic communication projects that promote mutually beneficial relationships between the Law Library and the public, as well as federal agencies. One of my favorite projects has been collaborating with my supervisor and one of the Law Library’s legal reference librarians on developing a communications plan for an upcoming Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony that marks the start of a new relationship between the Law Library and the Peace Palace Library in the Netherlands.

Why did you want to work at the Law Library?

First, I value knowledge and have always been a book nerd so it is very surreal for me to be at the largest library in the world. I need more time to stand in the stacks and browse books! Also, I have always been interested in law and legislation, so working at the Law Library of Congress is a great place to combine all of my interests.

What is the most interesting fact you’ve learned about the Law Library of Congress?

Not only is it the largest law library in the world, the Law Library owns and contributes to the official U.S. federal legislative information website, Congress.gov.  The Law Library has foreign law experts from everywhere and anywhere, most of whom are multi-lingual, and have a wealth of knowledge that I would love to absorb. We also have student scholars from all over the world studying our collections and resources, so our staff is very diverse and culturally rich.

What’s something most of your co-workers do not know about you?

My husband and I enjoy singing together. We also have a strong presence within the homeschooling community in South Dakota. Our goal is to promote self-worth and confidence through teaching line dance and creating a fun and positive atmosphere for youth.
