The Digital Resources Division is proud to introduce the first two Story Maps highlighting our collections. These Story Maps are a preview to the information contained in the United States Congressional Serial Set, which the Law Library continues to prepare for digitization.
City Sketches and the Census highlights the 1880 Census Office report, published in Serial Set volume number 2149. Containing maps and historical profiles, many major cities were outlined, including Washington, D.C. Scroll through the Story Map to browse featured cities as they were described in the report, along with an interactive map of population statistics.
The City of Washington: From the Serial Set tracks the history of the District of Columbia through photographs, maps, and images of the Serial Set. Various histories of national landmarks and federal buildings in D.C. are tracked throughout the Serial Set volumes. This Story Map also contains an interactive map that compares Serial Set images of these sites with contemporary photos.
Both Story Maps connect legislative documents to the digital image collections across the Library to tell visual stories of United States history. The Law Library looks forward to publishing more Story Maps in the New Year. We hope you enjoy these Story Maps as introductions to our digital legal collections.

Thank you for this visually stunning post! I was at the 2020 FDL Conference (virtually) and was amazed by your presentation on this project. The data sets, worksheets, and strong collaboration were very impressive. Thank you for closing out the year with these treats. I look forward to more in 2021.
