Congress.gov February 2022 New, Tip and Top – Part II

Earlier this month, Andrew blogged about the addition to Congress.gov of the ability to browse House, Senate, and Joint Committee prints. With this release, we have enhanced the Legislative Tracker by adding information about what the Tracker is and providing the user with a direct link to the Legislative Process videos.

Enhancements

Enhancement – Mobile Use – Improved User Experience

• Your user experience is significantly improved when viewing and searching Congress.gov on your phone.
• Find filters and controls for tracker display, view, and sort order options at the top of your search results.

Enhancement – Legislation – Advanced Search

• Use the legislation advanced search form to search for a specific activity by a selected committee, including subcommittee activity.

Enhancement – Legislation – Tracker

• The tracker display on legislation search results as well as bill and resolution pages is redesigned to be easier to read and more accessible.

Congress.gov Search Tip

The better one understands the legislative process, the better I think one can utilize Congress.gov. To this end, the Legislative Process videos are among my favorite features of the site. These videos, with accompanying transcripts, help to convey the basic legislative process as well as hint at some of its complexities. Another feature, also related to legislative process information, is a diagram of the U.S. Congress Legislative Status Steps. This diagram can be accessed from the Congress.gov Glossary entry for “legislative action steps” and illustrates all the possible many, many steps in the legislative process.
