Congress.gov April 2023 New, Tip, and Top

Share this post:

Last month, Robert shared a post about the U.S.S. Macon in the Bound Congressional Record. We continue to work hard to pull in additional Congresses for this collection. Robert regularly shares some of the congressional reactions to historical events from these time periods including the 1918 flu pandemic, the moon landing, and the Kennedy assassination.  This month we updated the Bound Congressional Record in Congress.gov by adding five additional Congresses from 1881 to 1891.

With the additional Congresses of the Bound Congressional Record, we want to make it easy to find the content. You can get to it via the Congressional Record Browse page. You can search using the global search bar and select “Congressional Record” from the drop down. There is a “Debates of Congress Edition” filter from which you can select “Bound Edition” to narrow it down. You can also click “Search Within” if you want to add another search term.

This release adds new fields to help you do date searching of the Bound Congressional Record. You can now use

  • crArticleVolume: (e.g., “137”)
  • crIssuePartNumber: (e.g., “25”)
  • congSessionNum: (e.g., “1” thru “9”)
  • crArticleDateStr: (e.g., “1901-03-01”)
