The Law Library of Congress’s next offering in its Orientation to Legal Research Webinar Series will provide an overview of U.S. case law research, including information about the U.S. federal court system, the publication of court opinions, methods for researching case law, and information about locating records and briefs.

Also in May, we are hosting our orientation to our Law Library collections webinar, which covers Law Library resources and research strategies for navigating Law.gov.


Orientation to Legal Research Webinar: U.S. Case Law

Date: Thursday, May 11, 2023, 1:00 p.m. EDT – 2:00 p.m. EDT

Content: Provides participants with information about legal sources and research techniques regarding U.S. case law, including information about the U.S. federal court system, the publication of court opinions, methods for researching case law, and information about locating records and briefs.

Instructor: Jason Zarin – Legal Reference Specialist. Jason has a B.A. in economics from Tufts University, an M.A. in economics from UCLA, a J.D. from the University of Southern California, an LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University, and a master of science in information systems from the University of Texas at Austin.

Orientation to Law Library Collections

Date: Tuesday, May 16, 2023, 1:00 p.m. EDT – 2:00 p.m. EDT

Content: This webinar is designed for patrons who are familiar with legal research, and would instead prefer an introduction to the collections and services specific to the Law Library of Congress. Some of the resources attendees will learn about include the Law Library’s research guidesdigital collections, and the Guide to Law Online, among others.

Instructors: Louis Myers – Louis is one of the Law Library’s legal reference librarians. He holds a B.A. in history from Kent State University, a J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law, and an M.L.I.S. from Kent State University.
