Watch a Recording of the 2023 Congress.gov Public Forum

On September 13, 2023, the Library of Congress held a Congress.gov Public Forum that was available in person and online. This Forum provided attendees with an update on the enhancements that have been made to the site over the past year and served as a listening session to learn more about how the Library can better serve your legislative information needs.

• Jim Karamanis, director of IT Design and Development for the Office of the Chief Information Officer, provided opening remarks.
• Judith Conklin, the Library of Congress chief information officer, then provided a welcome.
• Andrew Weber, Congress.gov product owner for the Office of the Chief Information Officer, kicked off the event.
• Robert Brammer, chief of the Office of External Relations and Congress.gov subject matter expert for the Law Library of Congress, then provided a summary of recent enhancements to the site.
• We then had a break for questions and answers.
• Barbara Perkins, head of the Legislative Analysis and Information Section for the Congressional Research Service, discussed the Congressional Research Service’s bill summaries on Congress.gov.
• This was followed by another 10 minutes of questions and answers.
• Meghan Totten, paralegal specialist for the Congressional Research Service, provided attendees with an update on the Constitution Annotated.
• Jennifer Gonzalez, senior legal information specialist and Congress.gov subject matter expert for the Law Library of Congress, discussed the collaboration between the Law Library of Congress and Congress.gov to make historical legislative documents available on Congress.gov.
• Jennifer’s presentation was followed by 20 minutes of questions and answers.
• Andrew Reiter, legislative data specialist for the Congressional Research Service, then provided a presentation on the Congress.gov API, followed by 10 minutes of question answers on the API. Next, we had another 10 minutes of questions and answers with the audience, followed by closing remarks.
