Of Note: Happy New Year from Journalist Bess Furman

Of Note is an occasional series in which we share items that have caught our eye.

Journalist Bess Furman (1894-1969) often sent unique New Year’s cards, like the ones pictured here, to her friends and family. Furman selected the images, which sometimes portrayed a caricature of herself, and wrote a short, often whimsical, verse for the cards. Furman’s papers in the Manuscript Division shed light on both her personal life and her professional career. As a reporter, Furman covered the White House and frequently followed the activities of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.
