The Library of Congress is proud to celebrate GIS Day on Wednesday, November 14th, with a morning of engaging talks and discussions on the theme of “GIS in K-12 Education: from Data to STEM.” We are pleased to feature Representative Bruce Westerman (AR-4), who will speak about the Geospatial Data Act and the role of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) in education and policymaking.
The event will be held in the Mumford Room (LM-649) on the Sixth Floor of the Madison Building (101 Independence Ave. SE, Washington, D.C.). In addition to Representative Westerman, the morning session, which will run from 9am to 12:15pm, will also include guest speakers from the Library of Congress, the American Association of Geographers, and Esri, who will provide diverse perspectives on promoting GIS in K-12 education and how spatial thinking can drive innovation in schools and libraries. Following the morning session, the Geography and Map Division (LM-B01, on the Basement Floor of the Madison Building) will host an Open House from 1pm to 3pm.
The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not needed. Individuals requiring accommodations for this event are requested to submit a request at least five business days in advance by contacting (202) 707-6362 or [email protected].
