The Music Division is ready to hit it with Tank and The Bangas this Friday, October 25, 2019, at 8:00 pm. Included in the 2018 list of Rolling Stones “10 New Artists You Need to Know”and winners of 2017 NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest by unanimous vote, Tank and The Bangas has climbed to the top of popularity performing in national and international stages with a robust touring schedule. Their contagious mix of hip-hop, funk, R&B, gospel and spoken-word poetry together with the unique voices which the band singer and frontwoman, Tarriona “Tank” Ball presents, make Tank and The Bangas, a band that no one should miss.
Because having one concert is not enough, Tank and The Bangas is conducting a spoken-word poetry workshop with local DC youth. This unique opportunity will take place on Saturday, October 26, at 11 am in the Coolidge Auditorium, and is free and open to the public. Lucky participants will meet and work with the core band and present their work to the audience at the end of this one-hour experience. Youth interested in participating can reach the Concerts Office at [email protected]. The public can sign up for tickets at loc.gov/concerts.
“Bathing theatrical hip-hop, soul, funk, and spoken-word poetry in the lush musicality of its New Orleans home, the band’s recent album, Green Balloon, floats on the effervescent energy that captivated the Internet two years ago, and which only increases onstage. There’s no leaving a Tank and The Bangas performance in a bad mood.” —The New Yorker
Tank and The Bangas, with 11 musicians on stage, promises to put on an exuberant performance at the Library of Congress. So, get ready, set and go. Oh! One more thing: The Nationals are playing this Friday at 8 pm at the Nationals Stadium, and that means that traffic, metro, and parking can get intense. So, make a plan, leave early and enjoy the ride.
