The following post was written by Music Reader Services Librarian Katie Rodda and published on October 24, 2019 on NLS Music Notes, a Library of Congress blog for and about those who want, need or provide the special format music of braille, audio, and large print offered by the NLS Music Section.

This week, on Thursday, November 7, the Library of Congress National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS) will present a concert featuring Washington, D.C. resident and NLS Music Section patron José André Montaño, along with his trio, in the Coolidge Auditorium at 8:00 p.m.

Originally from Bolivia, 14-year-old José André Montaño has made a big name for himself over the past few years. He has performed at the John F. Kennedy Center multiple times—most recently this past January—as well as at Washington, D.C.’s Blues Alley jazz club. Additionally, José has performed on international stages in Italy, Malaysia, Bolivia, Peru, Finland and Brazil. He has shared the spotlight with various notable artists including Marcus Miller and Renée Fleming. He is currently mentored by Mr. Cyrus Chestnut, and is a member of the Honor Ensemble of the Washington, D.C. Public Schools. You may wish to listen to some of his previous performances at this link. Additionally, you can find more of José André’s performances and other information on his website.

The concert at the Library of Congress will feature José André Montaño on piano with Eliot Seppa on bass and Kelton Norris on drums, playing some of José’s favorite charts. As his styles encompass jazz, Latin, rock, and blues, attendees will be in for an evening of exciting and eclectic music! The NLS Music Section is very much looking forward to this evening—this performance should not be missed!
