For the first time in its 15-year history, the Library of Congress National Book Festival is bringing romance to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Saturday, Sept. 5.
The festival runs 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. (doors open at 9) with pavilion presentations in Children, Teens and Picture Books; Fiction; Mysteries, Thrillers & Science Fiction; Biography & Memoir; Food; History; Science; Poetry & Prose; Contemporary Life and writers from as far away as Argentina and Australia. Authors will begin their discussions at 10, and some pavilions will remain open until 8.
Nighttime is romance time!
The evening brings Romance Fiction, starting at 7:15 and running until 9. National Public Radio’s Petra Mayer will emcee the program, which features three of today’s best-loved romance writers: Sarah MacLean (“Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover”), Beverly Jenkins (“Destiny’s Captive”) and Paige Tyler (“Wolf Trouble”). Each writer will discuss her work individually, then all three authors will participate in a discussion led by Mayer, followed by a question-and-answer session.
The Center for the Book introduced romance fiction programming to the Library in February with its successful conference “What Is Love: Romance Fiction in the Digital Age.”
More than 175 authors, poets and illustrators are scheduled to attend what will be the biggest National Book Festival in its history. If romance is not your thing, there is sure to be an author, or two, or three — or more who will pique your interest. And those authors will be signing their books for their many fans.
Politics & Prose, a local independent bookstore will be selling all featured titles, and many books will be available there already presigned by the author.
