This year’s festival, to be held during the weekend of Sept. 25-27 with the theme of celebrating American ingenuity, will be all-virtual, offering on-demand videos, live author chats and discussions, options to personalize your own journey through the festival with particular themes and more.

Thank you so much for continuing the festival. I have attended in person for 5 years and brought my friends from Norfolk, Va. and relatives from Oklahoma, Arizona and Indiana. All summer I have been “attending” by looking at the videos. This feature has helped me cope with staying indoors.
San Diego Comic-Con, the first time in 51 years, had to go virtual. Do you think that is a possibility with the National Book Festival? Please be safe.

The National Book Festival App will not be updated in 2020 in favor of a robust, mobile-friendly web-based experience that will be available prior to the event. Watch this blog for more details when they are available.

Registration for those wishing to attend the festival will open a few days prior to the Festival. We’ll send out notices to all blog subscribers the moment registration opens! Also, the author nomination process each festival takes place between December 1-February 28 of that year. Potential participating authors must be nominated by their respective publishers, and preferred candidates are usually popular, nationally-known authors who have won book awards at the national level. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate all authors who wish to present and sign at our festival. Usually, some 400 qualified authors, illustrators and poets are nominated each year to participate, and around 100 individuals are selected to present. Thanks for your interest!
