This is the second in a series of posts by Sara Karrer, a senior development officer in the Library’s Development Office, on the occasion of the 2020 National Book Festival, looking behind the scenes at some of the festival’s loyal supporters.
Did you know that there are government agencies dedicated to supporting libraries, museums and the humanities? Both IMLS and NEH fund American ingenuity in different ways. Both have also supported the National Book Festival from its earliest years. Hundreds of thousands of festivalgoers have swarmed to discover “Great Reads from Great Places” from the Library of Congress Center for the Book and its 53 local centers over the years. Today you can visit the Roadmap to Reading online and see why it is among the most popular National Book Festival attractions!
Learn more by listening to Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden’s conversation with IMLS Director Crosby Kemper and NEH Chairman John Parrish Peede as they discuss the important role that support for libraries, museums and the humanities plays in our democracy.
Also, be sure to join a live conversation with representatives from the Library of Congress and these government agencies as they discuss how IMLS and NEH grants support the humanities and the arts. You can also learn about the grant-application process later today, Friday, Sept. 25, at 4-5 p.m. ET.
To get to the session, after you have registered for the Book Festival, from the top navigation bar select “Discover State Reads,” then select “Roadmap to Reading.” We hope to “see” you there!
