We’re thrilled to announce that free tickets are available for our two in-person National Book Festival events! Due to social distancing and safety protocols, seating is limited — so make sure to register now to see these puzzle masters and literary stars in action.

Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. ET: Live Conversation with Adrienne Raphel and Will Shortz. Adrienne Raphel, author of “Thinking Inside the Box: Adventures with Crosswords and the Puzzling People Who Can’t Live Without Them,” and New York Times puzzle master Will Shortz will discuss their obsessive crossword fascination with NPR’s Lulu Garcia-Navarro. Register here.

Saturday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. ET: Live Conversation with Nikki Giovanni. Bestselling poet and writer Nikki Giovanni, named by Oprah Winfrey as a “Living Legend,” will read from and discuss her new book, “Make Me Rain: Poems & Prose,” with Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden. Register here.

Both programs will take place in the Coolidge Auditorium in the Thomas Jefferson Building at the Library of Congress, 10 First Street SE. Please note that registration is required, and there is a limit of two tickets per attendee.

Of course, the well-being of visitors and staff is the Library’s top priority, so we have adjusted the visitor experience to meet current local and national health and safety guidelines. Visitors must abide by all Library guidelines, including those listed during registration and on the Library’s website.

We look forward to seeing you! And if you’re not able to attend in person, don’t fret: Both events will be livestreamed from the National Book Festival website.

Join us for the 2021 National Book Festival, Sept. 17-26. Audiences are invited to create their own festival experience this year, with programs in a range of formats. Subscribe to this blog for future updates on the festival, and visit the festival website.

  1. Nikki Giovanni is a living legend. To limit the registrations for her presentation is unforgivable.Truly exacerbates those of us who are left out.
What could be done to allow more registrations?

    • The Library is following local and national health and safety guidelines, including social distancing, which limits seating capacity. We encourage you to keep checking the registration link in case there are any cancelations.

  2. Im in debt to Niki G. to opening up the World of poetry. I watched a tv interview of her when i was a kid in LA. And ignited the curiosity to be brave my fear that poetry was beyond my understanding. Fell inlove with hers and have branched out to others. Thankyou Niki
