This coming weekend at the Packard Campus Theater (19053 Mt. Pony Road / Culpeper, VA)

Be warned:  Not all monsters look like monsters.  At least not this month at the Packard Campus Theater as we look at “Monsters Among Us.”  Sometimes, you see, they are just cute and cuddly (and animated).  But sometimes, they look just like you…and me.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7 @ 7:30 p.m.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Allied Artists, 1956)

The monsters come from outer space.  We will be screening both this, the original cult favorite, and its well-made remake later in the month.

This “Invasion” was added to the Library’s National Film Registry in 1994.  To learn more about the film, see this essay by film scholar Robert Skar.

B&W, 80 minutes.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8 @ 2:00 p.m.

Monsters, Inc. (Disney-Pixar, 2001)

Some monsters for the kids.  What Pixar did for toys (via “Toy Story”), it does again for monsters.

Color, 93 minutes.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8 @ 7:30 p.m.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (MGM, 1978)

Few remakes stand up compared to the original but this one does.  This time the invaders are in color!  The film features Donald Sutherland, Leonard Nimoy, Jeff Goldblum, and Brooke Adams…and Kevin McCarthy.

Color, 115 minutes.
