Love in the Afternoon (Allied Artists, 1957)
Start the month off with a rom com! A bit of May-December (well, at least October) love between Gary Cooper and Audrey Hepburn. Cooper is a PI working for Hepburn’s father. But he becomes quite bewitched by her. How could he not? Directed by Billy Wilder. B&W, 130 minutes.
Love Me Tender (20th Century-Fox, 1956)
Who doesn’t love a good Elvis movie? And this is his first. It is a western or a musical? Whichever it is a good story about how complicated love can be….with a few songs thrown in including “Let Me,” “Poor Boy,” and the title tune. Debra Paget is Elvis’s love interest. B&W, 89 minutes.
From Russia, With Love (UA, 1963)
America (and the world) fell in love with Sean Connery as the suave spy James Bond via his role in “Dr. No” in 1962. In 1963, he returned to his martini ways. Daniela Bianchi is Bond’s sexy co-star but Lotte Lenya has a much more memorable role. Color, 115 minutes.
