Applications Now Open for AHHA Fall 2021 Remote Internship

Applications open today—March 26, 2021—for the Fall session of the Archives, History and Heritage Advanced Internship! This part-time, remote internship offers undergraduate juniors and seniors, graduate and doctoral students insights into the Library of Congress collections—the world’s largest and most comprehensive repository of human knowledge.

Prepare to Apply. Read the full description of the AHHA internship on the Internships and Fellowships Portal, and get familiar with the expectations and eligibility criteria of the internship. Read through the list of Fall projects that are listed toward the middle of the page. On your application, you’ll select your top two projects.

If this is your first time applying through USAJobs.gov, you’ll want to create a login.gov account. Next, create a profile in USAJobs.gov.

Read the Job Posting Thoroughly. Click the USAJobs.gov link from the full AHHA program description to access the job posting and preview the vacancy questions.

Request Your Transcript. Request your transcript through your university. Because delivery can take a while, try to request your transcript as early as you can. Read the full AHHA program description to determine what will and won’t be accepted.

Build Your Resume. Build your federal style resume in USAJobs.gov. If you have an existing resume, be sure to convert it to federal style before uploading.

Gather Your References. You don’t need to submit letters of reference for the application to AHHA, but you’ll want to give your references a heads up that you’ll be submitting their names and contact info. Your references will be contacted only if you are selected for the internship.

Draft Your Candidate Statement of Interest. For this application, you won’t upload a separate cover letter. Instead, you’ll paste your candidate statement of interest right into the application. There’s a 5000-character limit for this section, so be sure to watch your character count as you’re drafting. Read the vacancy questions to find out what to include in your statement of interest, and draft your statement before completing the application.

Submit the Application. When you have all your materials prepared, you’re ready to submit the application via USAJobs.gov. The deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, April 23.
