Fans of the photos we share through the Library of Congress Flickr account have expressed interest recently in the Bain News Service’s coverage of the 1914 World Series which appear in our photostream. It certainly is timely as the World Series starts tonight pitting the St. Louis Cardinals against the Texas Rangers in a best-of-seven games contest. Even before the first World Series in 1903, there was abiding interest in determining which club was baseball’s best as evidenced by this 1876 poster shown above celebrating the Chicago team’s accomplishment. Whether you’re a die-hard enthusiast or just a casual fan, let’s shake hands before the opening pitch and watch as the best teams in baseball battle it out!
