Immerse yourself in the practice of teaching with primary sources from the unparalleled collections of the Library of Congress this summer. Apply to attend one of the following week-long professional development programs for K-12 educators in the nation’s capital:

  • June 20-24
    (Science, Technology, and Engineering Focus)
  • June 27 – July 1
  • July 11-15
  • July 18-22
  • July 25-29

Each five-day institute provides educators with tools, resources, and strategies to effectively integrate primary sources into K-12 classrooms. Teachers and school librarians of all grade levels and curriculum areas are encouraged to apply to the open sessions, and educators who focus on science, technology, or engineering are invited to apply to the special focus week.

Tuition and materials are provided at no cost to participants. However, participants are responsible for transportation to and from the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., and any required overnight accommodations. Interested participants have the option of completing additional requirements (and paying a fee) to earn three graduate credits from George Mason University.

The deadline to submit an application is February 29, 2016.

  2. Dear Sir/Madam,

    I am an educator from Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Island, Saipan and I am very interested in attending this great learning opportunity for teachers. I was a teacher for 11 years and a school administrator for 16 years and just thinking about this Library of Congress in Washington, DC may give me the additional knowledge and skills to really build a better strategies on how the library at our school campus can be utilized effectively and in a much meaningful manner for the students we serve. Aside from learning how to build a better library but also the type of resources that we can procure and make available for our students and teachers so it can be readily available close to their classrooms where they can use it to implement effective instructional strategies to help reach the 21st Century Classroom concept or model. I am also interested in knowing how to effectively implement programs and more for our students and teachers so they can all be achieve successfully in what the goal they said for themselves.

    Again, I am really interested in attending this Library of Congress in Washington DC and if I am ever given the opportunity, I would like to be the resource for those that may need my support.

  3. I am interested in attending June 27 – July 1. This would be a great opportunity for me to attend. Considering I am a first time Media Coordinator for a public school. I see a great opportunity to enhance my skills as an elementary Media Coordinator.

  5. In the past haven’t there been institutes specifically for librarians? If so, I would like more information on these.

    • There has not been one institute designated for librarians. We encourage all those interested in supporting students in using primary sources to apply.

  6. I just received my acceptance into this workshop and am very excited to participate. I would like to take the train from Philadelphia and stay in a hotel within walking distance to the workshop location. Do you have any advice? Thanks!
