Welcome Back to the Classroom and to Teaching with the Library

Here at the start of a new school year, we’d like to welcome readers new and old to Teaching with the Library!

This blog shares teaching ideas and strategies that support the use of Library of Congress primary sources in the K-12 classroom. Primary sources have great instructional power and can help students build critical thinking skills. The Library makes millions of primary sources available for free on its website, loc.gov, and offers many helpful teacher resources on its portal for educators, loc.gov/teachers.

We’ve recently launched several new resources, including primary source sets on Reconstruction, Political Parties, Child Labor, and the Great Migration, and have many more new items in the works. Watch this space for announcements in the coming weeks, and let us know what you think in the comments.

Do you enjoy these posts? Subscribe! You’ll receive free teaching ideas and primary sources from the Library of Congress.

  1. These Blogs by the Library of Congress are a wonderful resource! Their information on Harriet Tubman was of great value while making a lesson plan about her. I use it every February.
