Reminder: Apply Now! Summer 2025 Professional Development at the Library of Congress

Share this post:

Early last November, we published a post inviting educators to apply to join us onsite at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., for a 3-day free professional development workshop to learn and practice strategies for using primary sources with K-12 students.

Complete details are available online, but here are a few highlights:

Two sessions will be held:

  • July 9-11, 2025
  • July 16-18, 2025

Educators of all disciplines are invited to apply! We will discuss resources and strategies to effectively integrate primary sources into K-12 classroom teaching. Each session will focus on pedagogy, with an emphasis on supporting student engagement, critical thinking, and construction of knowledge.

While practicing these teaching strategies, attendees will explore some of the millions of digitized historical artifacts and documents available in the Library’s collections. They will also conduct research to identify primary sources and develop an activity related to their classroom content.

The institute and instructional materials are provided at no cost. Participants will be responsible for transportation to and from Washington, D.C., as well as any required overnight accommodations. Upon successfully completing the workshop, participants will receive a certificate for 30 hours of professional development.

The application deadline is Friday, January 31, 2025. All applications require a letter of recommendation, so plan ahead!
