The CYAC Program at the Library of Congress: Summarizing Fifty Years of Children’s Literature

Can you summarize the classic story The Cat in the Hat in one sentence? How about Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone or A Wrinkle in Time? This is just one small part of what librarians in the Children’s and Young Adults’ Cataloging Program or CYAC (pronounced kahy-ak) at the Library of Congress have been doing for decades. This week, the CYAC Program celebrates their fifty-year anniversary at the Library.

Start the School Year with Library of Congress Teacher Resources

It may not feel much like fall in most of the U.S., but even in the absence of autumn leaves, school doors are opening and educators are preparing for--or beginning--a new year of teaching. In that spirit, we'd like to welcome you to another year of teaching using primary sources from the online collections of the Library of Congress! The Library offers millions of primary sources for free to all on its Web site, loc.gov, and its education program supports teachers as they use these powerful items effectively in the classroom.
