It’s hard to believe, but this is the tenth year of the annual digital preservation meeting convened by the Library of Congress.  Yes, it really has been 10 years.

Registration for this year’s annual meeting, Digital Preservation 2014, (July 22-24) will open next week.

Until then, I’m pleased to share with you the draft program (PDF), information about the event and some highlights on this year’s program.

Digital Preservation 2014, the annual meeting of the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program and the National Digital Stewardship Alliance, provides opportunities to identify key work and developments in digital preservation guidelines, practices and standards throughout the commercial content and cultural heritage communities.  This meeting attracts a variety of practitioners, librarians, archivists, software developers, educators and students with a range of digital-preservation interests.

You can see videos and presentations from past Digital Preservation meetings here.

The 2014 meeting includes a stellar line-up of speakers including: Matt Kirschenbaum, Associate Director of the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities; Shannon Mattern, Associate Professor, The New School;  Cole Crawford, Executive Director, Open Compute Foundation; Dragan Espenschied, Rhizome; George Oates, Director, Stamen; and Lev Manovich, Director, Software Studies Initiative. Other plenary panels will include discussions on stewarding space data and the future of web archiving.

Here’s some basic information to help you think about travel plans to the area.

The meeting will take place at the Washington Marriott Georgetown, starting on July 22 with registration and a continental breakfast at 8:30 am.  The meeting will conclude on July 23 at 5:15 p.m.

July 24 will be an all-day CURATEcamp on Digital Culture, an unconference, starting at 9:00 am and concluding at 4 pm.

There is no cost to attend either meeting.

Registration for Digital Preservation 2014 (the main meeting and CURATEcamp) will be announced on the Signal next week, where we will have information about the hotel block, logistics and travel to the area. Please keep an eye out for the announcement! We hope to see you there!
