Paul Allen Sommerfeld has been a Reference Specialist in the Music Division of the Library of Congress since 2018. Paul received his B.M. in Music Theory and Composition from Concordia College Moorhead in 2009, a M.A. in Musicology from Penn State University in 2011, and a Ph.D. in Musicology from Duke University in 2017. He is currently finishing his M.S.L.I.S at The Catholic University of America. Paul specializes in film music and fandom studies, and his dissertation focused on the music branding and the creation of meaning within the Star Trek franchise. He remains actively involved in the American Musicological Society, Music and Moving Image, Society for Cinema and Media Studies, and the Music Library Association. In addition to his research in music, Paul is an enthusiastic baker and cook.
