Join us for a quick preview of next week's Finding Pictures webinar offering a tour of select World’s Fairs images from the Prints & Photographs Division collections. The presentation will highlight four fairs spanning 1893 to 1965 in the United States, two in Chicago and one each in San Francisco and New York. Our experts will also discuss how you can learn more about P&P’s wide variety of photographs, posters, and design drawings showcasing the architecture, construction, and attendance at World’s Fairs both within the United States and abroad.

Finding Pictures: Twentieth-Century Ephemera

This post will preview the May 20, 2026 Finding Pictures webinar to be presented by Curator of Graphic Arts Sara Duke and Archivist Owen Ellis. The webinar will discuss the effort to process and make accessible printed ephemera received through the Copyright deposit program between 1909 and 1978. Materials include trading cards, design drawings, greeting cards, labels, and advertisements.

Calling all mid-century fans! Join Reference Librarian, Gillian Mahoney, for a virtual presentation on January 21st to learn more about Charles M. Goodman, one of the D.C. area’s most influential mid-century architects. Best known for his designs for the Hollin Hills neighborhood in Fairfax County, Goodman frequently worked with local builders and developers to make modern houses available to the mass market. This blog post will share a few sample items from the collection in advance of the talk.

Finding Pictures: Shawn Walker – Reflections

Join Curator Adam Silvia and renowned photographer Shawn Walker for a Finding Pictures webinar where they will debut their documentary interview on Walker’s life in photography, featuring images from the Shawn Walker Photograph Collection held in the Prints & Photographs Division of the Library of Congress. A founding member of the Kamoinge Workshop, a highly esteemed collective of Black photographers in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, Walker reflects on his youth growing up in Harlem, his journey to becoming a photographer, his experiences photographing in Cuba and Guyana and his creativity as an artist. Silvia and Walker will take questions from attendees afterwards.
