Lillian Gatlin is best remembered for being the first woman to fly across the United States, but she saw herself in grander terms: as a pioneering thinker born with “idea virus.” A new collection of Gatlin’s papers in the Library of Congress Manuscript Division offers clues to the many ideas that animated her life.
